FORMAS was founded in 2003
by two alumni of Reuters, the global news and financial information
provider. As contributors to Reuters spectacular growth in
international markets from the mid-1980s into the new millennium,
Simon Barrell and Robert McWilliams created products and led market
growth in Latin America, Japan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and
the United States. Both developed a deep and enduring connection to
Latin America in particular. Seeking new
challenges in a changed
business climate, but committed to professional information, Simon and Rob reviewed international
growth opportunities with a wide range of B2B publishing, media and technology companies. Some common
threads quickly emerged:
- Companies have cut back their overseas presence to focus on
core markets.
- Executives see global opportunity, but often lack resources
to define and exploit it.
- Global customers necessitate global reach, even to smaller
'emerging' markets, but the fixed costs of a local presence are
prohibitive in volatile economies.
FORMAS International Markets has set out to provide
solutions to these business issues through an outsourced approach to
international marketing and sales expertise. Our solutions are
particularly relevant as EMERGING markets recover from historic lows
with solid organic growth, historically low inflation and relative
political stability. There is a pent-up demand for state-of-the-art
information services, technology, software and content, following
several years of budget cutbacks and downsizing. |
